USCIS HAS REACHED H-2B CAP FOR SECOND HALF OF 2008
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on January 3rd that it had received a sufficient number of petitions to reach the congressionally mandated H-2B cap for the second half of Fiscal Year 2008 (FY2008). January 2, 2008 was the final receipt date for new H-2B worker petitions requesting employment start dates prior to October 1, 2008. USCIS will reject petitions for new H-2B workers seeking employment start dates prior to October 1, 2008 that arrive after January 2, 2008. Read full text of the announcement.
Fortunately American employers may still arrange for seasonal international employees through Work/Travel USA Program. Unlike with H2B Program, there is no charge for the service. Moreover, the participants of the Program are not subjects to Medicare, Social Security or Unemployment taxes. These savings account for up to seven percent of payroll.
